Surgical scalpels consist of two parts, a blade and a handle. The handles are often reusable, with the blades being replaceable. In medical applications, each blade is only used once. The handle is also known as a "B.P. handle".
Scalpel handles are available in a variety of styles and fitment for surgical blades. Most popular scalpel handles are #3 and #4. Both come with plain handle or with cm/mm scale. Available in a long handle style as well. A #3 scalpel handle is used with Surgical Blade #10 to 15. A #4 Scalpel handle is used with surgical blades #20 to 25. Other scalpel handles are #5, #6 and #7.
